Discount cosmetic at The Cosmetics Company Store – review
Easter Update (discount cosmetics and KG shoes!)
But we aren’t here to talk about that! I took a little visit to the Designer Outlet Centre in Swindon and picked up some UH-mazing bargains. The shopping centre has really improved over the years, not least because there is now a little treasure trove known as The Cosmetics Company Store… Estée Lauder-owned brands at discount prices! Unfortunately they don’t have a website, but there are a few dotted nationwide – if you can get to one, I urge you to do some spring shopping!
Read on to see how I got on…
A dear friend of mine told me that she’d bought her Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara here at a fraction of the cost, so it was a no-brainer heading down there myself!
I actually wasn’t aware of how many brands Estée Lauder actually owns – Clinique is a personal favourite of mine, and they also lay claim to none other than MAC, Bobbi Brown and Origins. You can also find Prescriptives skincare and a multitude of perfumes.
The price range is at least in the duty-free domain, and often around half price. There are mainly discontinued lines (which is great for those MAC colours you missed out on), but also a fair few little nuggets that are still selling full-price at your nearest counter.
I picked up…
- Estée Lauder Nutritious Vita-Mineral Makeup
- Estée Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara
- Clinique Redness Solutions Corrector
The foundation
I picked up the Nutritious make-up in Intensity 0.5 – the darker shades are (just about) still selling at Boots for £26.50, but I nabbed it for £18. It’s said to be oil-free, oil-controlling, antioxidant, non-acnegenic and good for sensitive skin. I hadn’t heard of it before but that all sounded excellent to me!
Anyway, this foundation is basically not worth my time and effort – it’s crap and I maintain that this is the case for almost anyone who uses it. Harsh words, I know! It’s tacky, cakey and although the swatch is a good colour match in the photo, when applied it had the dreaded grey tinge. I’m praying that the store takes returns, and instead I’ll be picking up Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Lip Colour in Tiger Lily which is a new shade for 2012 and majorly discounted in store.
The mascara
Unfortunately, the Sumptuous Extreme was only available in a weird denim blue colour, so on the assistant’s advice I went for Sumptuous as the next best option in the store. I’ve been needing a new mascara and saved about £6 on this one.
Looking at the brush, I was worried about clumping but this is actually great to apply. I wouldn’t say it provides ‘bold volume’, but my lashes are nice and defined, and at coffee earlier my friend commented on my long lashes which is always nice to hear! The curl also holds really well, so for an almost-high street price I’m really pleased with this. I have since read that it dries out quite quickly, though, so I’ll have to keep you posted on that one.
