Make-Up Brushes review: Real Techniques Core Collection

Make-Up Brushes: Real Techniques Core Collection – on the Bandwagon

Make-Up Brushes Real Techniques Core Collection

A couple of months ago I finally gave in to temptation and invested in the Real Techniques Core Collectionby Samantha Chapman (though at £21.99 for 4 brushes, it’s not really breaking the bank!). This lady has quite a following – it all started with bloggers/vloggers everywhere raving about her buffing and stippling brushes. This quickly led to a permanent gap in the shelves at Boots – it was nigh on impossible to find these in store!
Needless to say, now that they’re in my make-up box I will never look back. Read on for a little more info…

This is very small and fine for a foundation brush – almost a concealer brush, really! It’s a bit of an effort to use this for a full face (though it does deliver results), but to perfect your applied base, it’s fantastic! If you have any blemishes or areas that need blending, the foundation brush allows for precision application without being too thick.

So if the foundation brush is small, the concealer/detailer brush is obviously even tinier! Again, this is a great precision product for either cream or liquid concealer. I use it to highlight my Cupid’s bow with a lighter concealer, and to target smaller blemishes. For under the delicate eye area, though, I prefer a larger, sparser brush that is softer on the skin.

This brush is absolutely fantastic for perfectly-applied contouring on a night out! It has a rounded, almost pointed tip and is fairly dense. This leads to quite a heavy application, so it’s important to use just a little product at a time and build it up. For daytime I use a lighter blush brush so that I don’t make any mistakes when I’m rushing around 20 minutes behind schedule, but the Core Collection model is my go-to brush for the evening.

Real Techniques Core Collection: Buffing Brush

This brush is truly the pièce de résistance. Chapman recommends the buffing brush for applying minerals and powders. However, I’ve seen numerous bloggers buffing in their liquid foundations to achieve a flawless finish, which was my true incentive for buying the kit. I’d never tried the technique but it seemed more foolproof than your traditional foundation brush, and I’m already a fan of the MAC 187 stippling approach.
The buffing method is the perfect way for me to apply my Clinique foundation.
Little tip: dot your foundation around the T-zone first and wait a few seconds before buffing. This way, when you blend the foundation in (which you can carry over to the cheeks) it’s almost dry by the time you’ve finished. I then wait a few more seconds before dusting a loose powder over the top, et voilà! It is without a doubt the most “fuss-free” approach to a perfect complexion that I’ve found so far!
